Amtrak Conductor Agreement

December 2, 2020

“I congratulate Presidents Keeley, Sampson and Beebe for their professionalism and commitment to joining this very difficult round of negotiations,” said Mr. Previsich. “Their commitment, as well as the knowledge and contributions of the Vice-Presidents, have resulted in interim agreements that demonstrate the value of cooperation for the good of the men and women we represent.” Any proposed agreement is subject to ratification by members with the right to approve. UTU Amtrak conductors and shipyards are currently in mediation regarding a modified pay, performance and working conditions agreement. “Certification and interpretation on certain days remain the obstacles that stop us. I remain confident that with the efforts of our UTU negotiating team, we will be able to reach an agreement that will benefit Amtrak members. The agreement, which will come into force on April 1, 2018, provides for a cumulative salary increase of 18.83 per cent over the life of the bisse until 2021, plus retroactive pay. Here is a summary of the provisional agreements. “In other contract negotiations with Amtrak, we aspire to a fair agreement for our members. The presidents met January 10-11 at SMART TD`s headquarters in Cleveland, Ohio, to continue negotiations for a new contract for Amtrak employees represented by the union. With the help of TD Smart President John Previsich and Vice-Presidents John Lesniewski and John England, union officials and Amtrak representatives reached interim agreements for each bargaining group. Interim agreements must now be ratified by the members concerned, in accordance with the provisions of the UTU (SMART Transportation Division) Constitution.

Ballot papers are drawn by mail and the provisional deadline for returning ballots is April 10. Follow this link to view a summary of the agreement now ratified. Sampson said: “We are continuing negotiations with Amtrak to reach a fair agreement for our members. Certification and interpretation of individual days are important themes for Amtrak conductors and assistant conductors. “With the continued efforts of the two general committees and the support of International Vice-President John Previsich, we will reach a fair agreement.” Amtrak staff, represented by the go-769, GO-663 and GO-342 (Conductors, Assistant Conductors and Yardmasters) adjustment committees, voted overwhelmingly in favour of ratifying an interim agreement reached last month. TD Smart President John Previsich and Vice-Presidents John England and John Lesniewski led the negotiating team and an interim agreement was reached. The proposed agreements follow the pattern of wage increases and changes in health and well-being by other organizations in the former colonies.
